Week 3.2

Interim Presentation

I felt pretty happy with my work and confident going into the presentation, but it always leaves me feeling unimpressed with my work and jealous of other people's. The feedback I received was okay, it wasn't necessarily bad or good.

Feedback (written instead of photographed as the handwriting is nearly illegible):

1. Which poster grabs your attention the most and why?
'Periods are not a choice' (yellow toast poster) grabs attention most because of the bright colours.

2. Is the central issue easy to identify?
Central issue is easy to identify in top right one (yellow toast poster) - not so much in the other ones - especially the bottom ones (red newspaper and chalkboard posters). No explanation about periods to help us to understand. Newspaper one - replace stuff in newspaper with things to do with periods to make it more obvious.

3. Which concept is the strongest and why?
The 'more than you can chew' (tampon sandwich poster) is strongest - we understand what it was saying straight away but it also makes you think

4. Which concept has the most potential?
Same as strongest ones.
Possibly combine many different food items with sanitary products - could become a series.

5. How has the designer used Pathos (emotion), Logos (logic) or Ethos (authority of the presenter)?
Logos - grossed out but intrigued by the juxtaposition of tampon and sandwich. Seeing blood.

6. What FADP's have been used or what FADP's could be introduced and/or altered to enhance the composition?
Strong colour, relates well to theme.

Feedback from table mates:

Caspian liked the yellow toast poster the most as the bright colours grabbed his attention, and he said it was the best composition. As a change, he would like to the see the title handwritten instead of typed. I did a quick scribble on a piece of paper and scanned it with my phone then put it into the poster to see what this would look like. It's nice but I don't think it lends anything to the poster. I don't even know if this is the one I will be continuing with at this stage.
Sophie liked the maths doesn't add up chalk poster the best but she would like to see it relate more to periods at first glance. To do this she suggested I have the girl writing with a tampon. I wasn't keen on this idea at all but I did try it. I think it really doesn't look good. She also suggested I make the gradient filter on the girl less dark so that it contrasts more with the black background. A few people also said that I should make the small text bigger as they couldn't read it.
Writing with a tampon. Doesn't work at all.
Drawing a pad works better but then the title doesn't make as much sense.
Increasing the size of the smaller text so that it is more readable.

At this stage I was feeling a bit confused as I had lots of conflicting opinions about which poster I should carry on with. Caspian said toast, Sophie said math, and all of my written anonymous feedback said the tampon sandwich. Andre came over to help, and at first he said the math poster too but then he changed his mind to the tampon poster. He said this is because at the moment it is not the strongest but the idea is strong and it has the most potential.

For next class and printing at a2, I made a few small changes to the tampon poster as Andre said it would be nice for my fact to be more noticeable.
I'm not super happy with this composition but it doesn't matter so much as I know I will be remaking it very soon.
